Visit to Bay & Basin Writers’ Group, St George’s Basin

I recently had the pleasure of being invited to Bay & Basin Writers’ Group, St George’s Basin by my friend and member Pam Damon during my visit to Sanctuary Point.
During the meeting members and of course myself, were encouraged to give a ‘word of the day’, which was then transformed into a short story, not very easy when some of the words were rather challenging, like: ‘mucilaginous, peremptory, formidable and poignant’.  Although it was a nice way to get the brain working.

Promoting Yourself on Social Media

Members and guests were given an excellent overview on the differences and benefits of promoting yourself via social media, by Liz Keen, ABC Open Producer, Coffs Harbour, at our May monthly meeting.
Facebook is still the most popular form of social media by advertisers and it is ranked at number one, followed by for example: Twitter and Linkedin
The older population is embracing Facebbook more than ever, while Gen Y tend to use other forms of social media, like Twitter, Instagram and Flickr.

E-Publishing Your Works for the 21st Century Reader Workshop

Members and guests had a wonderful opportunity on the evening of 10th April at Coffs Harbour Library, where they experienced a presentation and hands-on session about getting started, including the pitfalls of eBook Publishing.

Example of Achievement Despite Obstacles

Our April 3rd guest speaker, Suzanne Gaye Smoothy gave a wonderful example of her personal achievements despite having experienced anxiety for many years. She found that maximising positive thoughts she could overcome her anxiety.
Suzanne shared her personal story on why and how she lunged into self-printing her first book, ‘Aussie Words of Wisdom’ without any real experience only the desire to overcome her anxiety and achieve the publishing of her first book. Proving that anyone could achieve anything, if they try.

Without having willing members like Ron volunteer his time to the back end of committee work our group wouldn’t be the success it is today.  Thanks Ron.
